What’s with the name UP Magazine? The best answer is trying to make the reader feel good and be uplifted after reading each issue. The parent company, called Porcupine Press, Inc., got it’s name when I drove over a porcupine on the highway and saw it pressed flat. That was the name, Porcupine Press, for the next 8 years, being a weekly newspaper. Then after chasing our tail and almost catching it, we changed to a monthly magazine and adapted the name UP Magazine, to feel a lot better about ourselves and to reach out to the whole world, with a format to raise reader’s spirits and see the brighter side of things.
